Live Aid DVD

A lot of you will have seen this DVD set advertised on TV in the last few days. I've been watching the DVDs over the weekend, and can recommend this set to anyone, regardless of age!

13 July 1985 was the day the whole world rocked for 16 hours; an estimated 2 BILLION people watched on 95% of the world's TV sets. It was the first ever global broadcast - and all arranged without the aid of mobile phones or e-mail, as these did not exist then. It raised 80 million dollars on the day. The proceeds of the sale of the DVD set are going to Band Aid.

Anyone who buys this set will be buying a historic document and a nostalgic reminder of what good music used to sound like as well as contributing to an ongoing great cause. I was ashamed to hear the words "Darfur Province" come up in one of the included documentary sections - anyone who has been watching the news of late will realize that now, 19 1/2 years later, it's still a mess.

The concert opened marvellously with Status Quo doing "Rocking all over the world" and there are superb contributions from Queen, Dire Straits, The Who and Ultravox, to name but a few. The 4-disc set contains pieces from concerts in smaller countries, which never made the live broadcast - some a bit amateurish, but the thing is not how well they did it, but that they did it at all.

Go get it, guys, you won't regret it - even if you are too young to remember the original day!

Snorri

We actually recorded the whole of Live Aid when it happened, only problem now is that it was filmed on a Betamax recorder....... Hubby was going to pay to have it transferred, but as the news states today, VCR's are soon to be a thing of the past, so I might as well buy it on DVD, probably last longer too!

Well worth the money!!
