Do vets make money?

There was a post on another forum implicating that veterinarians don't make much money. I find this to be false. Near me they make a very decent living to say the least. How about near anyone else?

well i helped a vet in our garage with an old escort who couldnt afford to have her car fixed, very nice lady she was as well .But on the other hand the vets i use they all drive very expensive mercedes and the like so i think it all depends on what there practise is making i suppose.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?!

Where did you post this??? LOL, we were doing calculations on the same thing What forum did you post that on? Here's what I posted on Molosser Talk:

Notice though I didn't figure in major surgeries that are for much higher amounts, many total in the thousands so in my opinion, my figures are low ball averages.

I think the figures are flawed

This is what I think. The average vet sees 32 people on most days, that's scheduling one patient every 15 minutes.

Let's say half the patients are just being charged only $35 for an office visit, nothing more, the rest averaging about $100 for a visit with immunizations, which is a low figure, but it will make up for whatever overheard I'm not figuring in. Based on these low figures and assuming this imaginary vet practice is owned by one person.

16 people at $35= $560.00
16 people at $100 1600.00
Per day total 2160.00

Multiplied by 20 days $43,200.00
Take out 25% for taxes x .25
10,800
43,200.00
-10,800.00
32,400.00
Take out $1,200 per month for three employees at 400 per week, because we all know they don't pay their employees squat.

$31,200.00

Take out roughly $2000 for rent

$29,200.00
divide by two to figure in supplies

$14,600.00 x 12 months in a year

$175,200.00 This figure is even more likely to be higher because I haven't calculated in surgeries and other expensive procedures or office visits with multiple dogs. Also, in all actuality the vet doesn't employ three people or more unless there is another partner (in which case double the income) and doesn't pay such a high rent. Looks good to me.

Eraze, permission to crosspost. I'll leave your name out of it. Your model shows a completely different side that I didn't even calculate in

In fairness there was a lady on the forum I was arguing this and she only pays ten dollars an office visit because the area is depressed. It's in the country, her vets practice is in a run down old house. Instead of upping the rates to redo, the vet keeps the rates low. I like that vet, one in it for the good of the animals and not the good of their pocketbook.

well i read in a dog magazine that vets dont make much. They like make £40, 000 a year if they are lucky, same with lawyers. You would have to have ur own practise or be in a partnership to get up to 100k. Anyway, according to magazine alot of vets actually commit suicide
