Very disturbing in places but some excellent acting from all the cast.

Looking forward to next weeks episode.

Recorded it as I wanted to watch Foyle's War, so I've still got it to look forward to.

Good to know that it's worth watching!

I watched it and was slightly disappointed , it is set in Derbyshire my home county and the accents are all wrong, they are all over the place.

The acting is good and the locations made me homesick. I will be watching the rest with interest.

I have got photographs very similar to the ones in the program of the local band playing as the lads went to war.

Regarding the man with his face covered, this made me think of a local landowner in the Derbyshire village in which I grew up who built estate cottages for the workers without windows facing the road so his employees couldn't see him driving to church in his carriage (I am not sure why) .

My Grandmother was in service between the wars she said it was quite common servants were not to be seen, they should be doing the work with no one knowing they were there, so had seperate stairs to the main house and had to bow their heads or turn their back when members of the family walked by.

The house she was in generously gave all the servants a small box of matches every christmas, she always talked about that tradition and thought they were extremely stingy LOL

I think this was quite usual Julie I have lived in houses with 'servants' stairs .

I think my Grandmothers employer was quite eccentric, the maids in his household were not allowed to marry until they could sew a man's shirt and pair of trousers

Second episode wasn't as good as the first but still worth watching I think. Will stick with it for now and see what the third brings.

Julie Perhaps it is my age but I am finding the story a bit enigmatic with some things not well explained .
eg What was in the matchbox given to Bert
