the thing with Porcupine spines is they have a barb on the end, they go in but not out again, so living where dog and Porcupine can meet, you would think that they would no to keep an eye on there dog

Porcupine quills can cause serious infection & can migrate through the body if not removed: http://www.shakervet.com/tv_topics07.htm

It seems that dogs are more likely to attack a porcupine if they have previously been injured by one - a bit like catching bees/wasps, they do not learn to leave them alone
