Fleas!

Arghhhh!
Fighting a battle with Fin at the moment!
Both dogs got fleas, so both were treated with Frontline (spot on).
I also sprayed the house with flea spray etc.

Fin has just not stopped scratching. I then used the frontline spray on Fin. Still scratching!
I check for fleas every day, and couldn't see any on her. I tried the paper towel thing (wet paper towel to see if there was any dirt etc...) nothing showed up.
She was still scratching like mad, and I continued to check her every day.
This morning I managed to spot a tiny flea on her, but i'm reluctant to use Frontline, as it doesn't seem to have done anything!
(She's not built up an immunity to it, as OH didn't treat her before we met!)

Can anyone recommend another treatment that might work?
Does anyone think flea collars are any good?

She is scratching so much, she's making herself sore, and waking us up at night!
Will keep on treating the house till this is sorted!
Teagan seems fine, no scratching, and not seen any fleas/dirt on her.

if you can`t find flea-dirt on one of the dogs, it may be an allergy. One of mine used to be allergic to something in the summer months - we never found out what, but it was finally controlled with a long-lasting anti-histamine injection.

Could it be that this is an egg from an ex flea that has hatched and will die as soon as it bites due to the medication you have already given?

I know the itching can last after the fleas have gone as it takes a while for the reaction to the bites to go.

She's been itching for months though

It could be an allergy....... but she's never done this before when she's had fleas, so it's something new!
May try anti-histamine see if it gives her any relief!

Fudge was uper itchy a while back. I just went down the list and changed things till it stopped.

fleas?
dust allergy? (building work)
diet change?(had swopped her off Burns, she is now back on it!)

I bathed her and swopped her back onto the Burns. She has been fine since.

Good luck, exploring itchiness is a nightmare!

I think she needs to see the vet to get it sorted out. It could be all sorts of things.

My Mother in laws dog gets a flea allergy. She chews herself untill she bleeds. It is a reaction to the flea bitting. Even though she had been treated with frontline that my mother in law thought was not working it did in the end. I think new fleas hatch out of the carpet then bite the dog that causes it to itch but them the flea dies due to the frontline. Until the house is free of fleas she keeps itching.
My mother in law is rubish at keeping up with flea treatment so the poor dog gets it every year.

She will see a vet if things don't settle down. But my health is awful at the moment, and I would prefer to try things myself before taking her to the vets. The vets always ask if they've been flead/wormed etc, so exhausting all avenues before going, and then been sent home to try the things I could have done myself.

Luckily my two are always treated on time, and the house is treated too.
We come into contact with lots of dogs, so I check them both every day. I just don't think the frontline is working anymore on Fin!

Thanks, I think I will.
I'll ask someone to go get me some from the shop later!
