Is this info accurate?

My best friend is hoping to adopt a Lab from the RSPCA; she met him yesterday and is really taken with him.

The RSPCA think he's around ten, and have told my friend that it would be 'impossible' for her to ever get any insurance for him.....

Is that correct info? I realise that of course insurance would probably be much more expensive for an older dog, but is it really 'impossible' to get any insurance at all??

They don't have any history for this dog so could not notify an insurer about any pre-existing conditions...

Thanks for any responses

The above is a link to a specialist broker. TBH it would probably not be economical to insure a dog of this age, my 11 year old is no longer insured..............

We got our old boy when he was nearly 10 from the SSPCA and initially we had 6 weeks free pet plan from them and when that time was up we had no trouble reinsuring him. We obviously didn't know any history on him and when they ask you the question on previous health we just said not known.

They paid out thousands of pounds to us over 2 years with him so it was invaluable to us.

He is 12 now and we have cancelled his policy as the premiums went through the roof.

FWIW im going to remove my 9 year old from our insurance policy, and just have a credit card solely for her. Her insurance alone is £50 (tho other two are £20!) insane amount of money. Tho I remain an advocate of insurance, certainly for younger dogs and for those who wouldnt be able to meet vet fees

My staffie who is nearly 12 is insured by animals friends. i do have to contribute 35% of the total cost as well as excess of £100. I think its worth it as vet bills can be expensive. i pay around £12 per month.
