Broken Claw tip

Chillie has a broken tip to his claw, he is a Doberman so their claws are relatively long almost catlike.
They have always been carefully trimmed in the past but because he split it and exposed the quick it had to be cut back.
He had infection to it and had vet treatment and we wash and clean it with water and epsom salts, it now infection free but the tip is missing so the quick is still exposed.
The vet will not do any surgery because he has a heart condition which potentially will kill him sooner or later (he has treatment and drugs for that, not quite 7 years old yet).

So we have this hole in the end of one claw, we keep it clean and hopefully infection free, any ideas or tips how to fix it?

In my experience, the quick dries up pretty quickly. I would possibly bandage it up to protect it when out for a walk but other than that, I can't see what treatment it would need.
