Setting up a web/home page

I'm very, very green. How do you get your own webpage? I understand that you need to host it with someone, but apart from that I don't have a clue.

mine is a geocitie one its not high tech or anything though and if you visit at the bottom right hand side it asks if you would like to make your own site
ps its easy as i done it myself and im a bit dim lol
