The best dog you've ever had......and why !

........It's a terrible question but as per the title.............

What's the best dog you've ever had and why ......???

Not sure how to define 'best' but I just wondered which dogs (over the years) stand out as being that little bit special ??

For me, it was Mishu - she was my second shiba and the most biddable one I've ever had. I was heartbroken when I lost her to cancer at the age of 9. I felt truly robbed and her death really affected me, something that has never happened in that way before or since.

She was extra special

Tassle .... she has been so special in so many ways.

She was the first dog I ever got on my own (first 2 were courtesy of Mum). She was the first dog I found as a little pup. the time she was born was really special to me as well. As a grown up she became very different to what I had origionally wanted. She is SO much my dog, she is not bothered about other people at all, never goes for a fuss with them.

She has also been an amazing teaching dog. becasue of her aggression issues with other dogs (which admittily were my fault looking back). She really is a one in a million for me.

I could never imagine having another dog who even came close.....

.......then I got Siren......

I have 2 best ones but I did have them together and they were Chocky and Kizzy my two cavaliers. Such beautiful easy dogs in every way.

Errrm.....feel really quite bad about this, but Kaizer is my perfect boy!! He has a complete heart of gold without an ounce of grump...ANYWHERE!!!

His only fault is that he is SO soft, other more dominant dogs can tend to bully him abit and he wont stick up for himself......so I have to do it for him !!

Ozzies great too but he's only a baby yet.....lets hope Kaizers fantastic temp rubs off!!!....Shouldent be hard though as Oz is a real snuggle bum anyway!!

See I have 2 special ones for different reasons.

Kizzy, black lab was the dog I grew up with. She stayed with us for 15 years, until I was about 22. She was funny, silly, calm, placid, biddable, loveable and generally an all rounder. As a teenager I was always in tears over something and she would ALWAYS know and come and rest her head on my lap. She was a great one!

But, now I have Woody and he is incredibly special. Not only because I waited so long for him, he's my first ''own'' dog and he was born the day my husband and I were married but because over the past 8 months he's been in our lives it's been very, very tricky but we've kept on and on and the relationship/bond between us has gotten so incredibly strong. I'm also proud of him for the dog he's turned into and proud of us for helping him along and not giving up when many would have.

He's also incredibly clever. I know he's a springer but there is something, sometimes almost human like in his eyes and he has such a fantastic nature with other people, kids and especially dogs. We hear so often from people that there dog isn't good with other dogs yet when they play with Woody it's a whole other story!

I love him to bits, overwhelmingly so to be honest.

My Boxer Dudley, He broke his neck as a puppy and the vet after seeing the x rays said this dog should be dead, he should never have survived the impact. It was a miracle that he not only survived but made a complete and full recovery. We became extremely close during his recovery, I slept on the floor with him, cooked him special meals and hand fed him while he was lying still, he pee'd and crapped on me repeatedly but I never once thought we wouldn't get through it. He grew up to be such a gorgeous dog in every way. Although due to his accident he missed out on all his early socialisation etc and could never be fully trusted around unknown dogs as his social graces were somewhat lacking, and open to misinterpretation, so he spent his walks on an extending lead. I took up running to give him an appropriate amount of exercise and me and Dudley became so tuned into each other it was incredible. I bought a Parson russell to keep him company and they used to lay in the doorway like a double decker dog, Tyler the parson laid on Dudley's big head . The day I had him pts due to multiple strokes in a single day was heartbreaking for me but he'd had 13 fantastic years and I miss him still.

Well i've only ever really owned Monty but we did have a great dog when i was a kid.

Her name was peggy and she was a black labrador and was the most loving dog ever. She would lie on the end of my bed every night until i'd fallen asleep and she was generally an ace dog. When she was PTS i was only about 6 or 7 and my parents told me she had run away. I was gutted!!

So that was Peggy and now there's Monty and i know i have nothing to compare him with but he is truly a special dog and we feel lucky to have him every day. He was the last boy of the litter to be sold and probably as everyone had overlooked him because of his bald patches on his head which was a shame for him but great for us as we got a truly wonderful dog and the patches on his head have no effect on him as they're just like a birthmark.

Anyway 8 months down the line he still makes me smile every day, I miss him if i have to leave him anywhere else for a day and we're building up a great bond. When i was reading Vicki's post about Roxy yesterday i put myself in her shoes and imagined what i'd be like if that was Monty and i'd be a wreck!
