Puppy dealers

Living in Wales, I watched this programme last night, a dealer getting pups from puppy farmer and selling them on.

http://www.itv.com/wales/wales-this-week12572/

I think this sort of programme should be aired much more widely, not just in Wales as most of the pups end up in England. The only way this evil trade will stop is when they no longer have unsuspecting customers.

Feel free to spread it to other forums if you wish but really that is preaching to the converted, needs a wider audience

I felt so sorry for the chocolate lab licking the camera when they were around it's pen, horrid, horrid conditions and if the RSPCA or whoever thought that was suitable then I would like to see them live in a pen with their own mess, day in and day out. Poor dogs! And if they did do spot checks then they need to do them more frequently and under cover - anyone who went and saw those kennels and then bought from them - they need a head check.

They need to ban a lot of breeding practices, such as breeding from sheds, kennels etc. Even if they are bred in the house, they should only be one bitch bred at any one time, and only a few entire bitches in one property. And all breeders should have a licence. And all parent dogs should be health tested too.

But all this is just a dream.

Its so sad as there are so many dogs needing homes without breeding any more , if only breeding could be controlled and only done for the right reasons. I understand the need to keep breed lines going and also to breed dogs for specific working purposes but the pet market needs a good sort out. Its crazy there are strict guidelines to adopt a dog and in a lot of cases none of this applies in getting a puppy maybe except from responsible breeders , the human race have a need to make money and will exploit this situation whenever they can. If some of the criteria applied by rescue organisations was applied to buying a puppy perhaps it would weed some people out and impact on this market. Homechecks and meeting criteria may reduce the amount of eligible people to have puppies but how on earth do you resource this ? it seems that if theres money to be made people will exploit this and so the puppy farming goes on and it all boils down to the same thing, Money !!!!!!! But we will keep on trying to support the dogs that fall out of this sad situation

although most working dogs are bred from kennels, IMO all dogs should be raised in the house. i have no problem with dogs being kept outside (except thin skinned breeds), however I personally do not think puppies should be raised in kennels or outdoors. And this is where the majority of puppy farmers and BYBs raise their puppies too. Banning this practice would stamp out puppy farmers almost completely. And anyone who keeps their working dogs outdoors, can bring them inside to raise the pups.

So if I have a teeny tiny house with no space to give mum and pups peace and quiet when needed, I could not have a litter of pups according to you...................even if I had large, airy and spacious kennels?

Just because a litter is raised in the house does not necessarily equate to good rearing practices, they can be left alone in a room with no socialisation or habituation.

So one method is not necessarily better or worse than the other per se............
