Related to Convicts

My dad is not impressed with me today.

My dad comes from a little village near Wigan, Lancs. I have been researching our family tree on his side and up until he married my mum (an outsider) every generation married someone in the village or the vicinity. Anyway after a lot of research I traced my fathers maternal family right back to a man who was a highway robber who got sent to Van Diemens Land (Hobart). He served 10 years there and came back married to another convict. What was funny was that the person he committed the crime with (his friend) turned out to be my dads best friends great grandad. Hope that made sense.

Now my dad is not impressed and the best thing was I found out what my dads confirmation name was (its been his secret for years).

So to my dad I would like to say HELLO GERARD!!!!!

Wow, thats interesting Roxy, Dont think i'd even like to start doing my family tree. My great grandfather doesn't even know who his father was, i think its was a choice of 4 blokes (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor)

That is realy cool he should be proud a highway robber! There are even movies about them - next time they are on he can claim a relation!
