Being Left Alone

My boyfriend has 3 dachunds and every time we eat dinner we put them in their little doggie room and close the door. They used to be more patient about it and didn't scratch at the door much at all, but now they are starting to scratch at the door only a minute or two after we put them in there.

Why are they becoming more impatient? We don't give into it by letting them out right away. We wait until after we are done eating and then let them out like we would even if they weren't annoying us by telling us they want out. How do we get them to be more patient and let us enjoy our meal? Other then using treats and toys...

Not sure is there anything that has changed thier behaviour.
Do you eat the same time etc, the same routine as it used to be?

Do make sure they are not actually scratching when you open the door to let them out or they may think they have caused the door to open. Perhaps you could try shutting them in at another time & waiting till there is a lull in the scratching & immediately opening the door so they get to realise quiet equals door opening.

I expect my dogs to let me eat in peace but I don`t shut them up. I expect them to lie down and let me get on with whatever I`m doing.
Do you shut the dogs up any other time? Have you not taught them to lie down in their basket or wherever on command? Or is it that they get attention when they want it, rather than when you are ready to give it?
Sorry for all the questions, but I am genuinely puzzled.

having re-read my post - it sounded a bit critical. It wasn`t meant to be- I just worded it badly. If they`re not actually doing damage to the door, I suppose you could just leave them until they`re quiet. But I still think not shutting the door on them might be easier in the long run, if that`s possible.
(I am intrigued by the thought of 3 mini daxies with their own room, though!).

if nothing has change then maybe try a stair gate on the door so they can see you maybe they are thnking you have gone out. Do thy get worried or upset when you leave the house normally. You could try feeding them at the same time or if they eat later and you dont won to change there routing mayb ge a kong to them in the same room a you so they havesomething to do it could be that they are getting bored which is why they have now started. sorry hun if not much good but just some thughts that all. good luck with it we are here if you need us any time

agreeing with the advice of others, re: leaving kong down or feeding them at same time as yourselves.

i would be making sure that ur not opening the door when they are scratching and would advice a 2 minute disassociation time, so at least 2 mins quiet before u open the door otherwise they will learn that scratching is working.
