Harness Advice

Hello! I just adopted a 10-year-old shih tzu (who is awesome). However, he hates the harness that I got for him. It is a step-in harness and he dislikes putting it on, wearing it, and walking in it. He is happy as a clam walking on a collar and leash!

I do want to get a harness that he will like, to protect his trachea, and am hoping that the group mind might have some suggestions!

Thanks!

Fleece Y-shaped harnesses are usually good. Pop over the head and clip up round the middle!
Mine all get on well with them... they have several harnesses each

I use the mesh type harness for Rosie, but you'll find it's trial and error as to what will suit your dog best.

If he's never been walked on a harness before, it may just be that he's reacting more to the different feel of the harness rather than a collar. You could try taking him back to basics and introducing it to him slowly so that he gets accustomed to the feel of it

Thanks, guys, I'll see if the mesh harness will work for him.

The fleece harnesses look great but I'm in the US!

I bought the Puppia Ritefit harness for Falcor. We both love it! Thanks for the advice! If anyone else is looking for a harness for their Shih Tzu, the Puppia Ritefit harness works perfectly for my little guy.

My beagle has a fleece harness like those shown.. He is fine with it a lot of the time getting a dog to use a harness is just a question of time and getting him used to it..

I use this basic harness from Ortocanis. It's simple and does the trick, and my dog got used to it right away.

We use one that fits over the head and then clips on the sides from Embark Pets. Not sure if it will work for you but our dog does not mind putting it on or taking it off.
