Did your or your boyfriend say anything to him when he walked out of the room?

Ignoring is just that, no talk, no eye contact just walk out the room, close the door straight away, count to 5, come back in. If the mouthing has stopped, great, play a game, if it starts up again, walk out again - no admonishment, no eye contact. Repeat, repeat, repeat until your dog realises that good behaviour results in reward, unwanted behaviour stops the fun.

You don't need physical contact to correct a behaviour. If someone randomly starts pushing you, you would show resistance and push back, won't you?

If you put your thumb in his mouth and start pushing he will continue playing.

When you are on the sofa and he starts biting, simply get up while making a noise or word of your choice (in a firm way). Do not look or touch him.
When he has calm down, then sit back again. Keep doing this every time he starts getting excited and biting again.

Makes sure you praise him when he is being well behaved so this behaviour gets reinforced.
