Clean your PC's

I built this tower for a friend of mine 2 years ago, . . he phoned two weeks ago to say it wouldn't boot up, . . I collected it and took off the side, . . PC's act like hoovers, they draw in any dust floating about, . . this resulted in the CPU and the mother board being fried due to lack of air circulation.

He'll now have to replace both of them, . . I hasten to add his house is not like this, it's a common problem, .. I clean mine out twice a year, it only tales a minute.

So do you just take the casing off and hoover it?

Take the side off, . . it's only held on with 3 Philips screws, . . looking at the front of the tower it's the side on the left.

Make sure you leave the power cord connected but the power switched off, . . the earth pin on the cord acts as a static electricity discharge, . . using a hoover or brush can cause static which can damage your PC, . . if in doubt take it to a PC shop and they'll do it for you.

i was told to do this after an alarm would go off on my old pc when it had been running for around an hour. have to say i was stunned at how much dust had collected in it and you're so right in that they just suck it all in!!

i hoover this pc out around every 4 - 6 months as i don't have carpets so i think the dust has no where else to go! it's very simple but make sure you know where you put the screws!

good advice nero!!
