Looking for a Schnoodle Breeder

Good Morning

Im new to this site, but Im after a breeder of Schnoodles and was wondering if anyone could recommend one. Ive done quite a bit of research into them and know pretty much this is what dog I am after, but I really would like to purchase from a reliable breeder. I have a few questions to ask etc...

Can anyone help and point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Jen

From one Jenny to another, welcome.
I have to say I am not a fan of these designer cross breeds but a Schnoodle does sound rather appealing

The dog you call a Schnoodle is in fact a cross breed. The deliberate crossing of two established breeds is generally frowned upon as it's rarely about anything other than making money. So it's unlikely that you will find anyone reputable producing cross breeds deliberately for the above reason. Reputable people simply would not associate themselves with this practice.

When a breeder has spent a lifetime carefully selecting breeding stock for health tempament and conformation to the KC breed standard, they are unlikely to agree to allow their stud dog to mate with a bitch of a different breed.

You may well find a puppy of this particular cross, but I think it might be too much of a stretch to expect any kind of good reputation of the breeder. Sorry if this is not what you hoped to hear, nevertheless it's the truth. Poodles of all 3 sizes and Schnauzers are all beautiful breeds in their own right I think.

I agree with your comments in some respect. That said I owned a Pure Bred Welsh Terrier for the last 11 years, from a KC registered breeder, this turned out to be a costly 11 years including various trips to the vets. So this time, I was hoping to find a breeder that people had actually recommended.

With reference to your comment about cross breeds, I having been narrowing down my search and am now looking along the Miniature Schnauzer route. There is a lot of information on the internet about cross breeds, but its hard to know exactly which path to chose. As I said, its not something I am taking lightly, hence my joining this forum. To seek helpful advice from fellow dog owners/enthusiats.

This is american but genetic tests for mini poodles suggested on a Min Poodle breeder webbo

PRA
Hip Dysplasia
Legg-Calve-Perthes

Minature schnauzers (again an american site)

http://www.mscc.ca/health.html
quite a list

So whilst you may not find a 'reputable' breeder (ie one that someone would recommend) you should look for one that carries out appropriate health test on both dogs and specialises in that particular cross (ie not one that has a number of crosses advertised or high volumes of litters)

As with anything caveat emptor but i have seen quite a few litters advertised as both parent PRA clear but that could just be smart mills catching on and just putting that on the advert. Dont take a certificate as proof Im sure there will be a website that list test results somewheres

good luck they look super cute!

I have Mini Schnauzers and Labradoodles, and admit I prefer the temperament of the Labradoodles.

I love my Mini Schnauzers ( I am on my third) but my Labradoodles are less stubborn and eager to please which is a shock after being used to a terrier and Schnauzer temperament for years!

I don't know what the coat would be like with a Schnoodle, but it would probably need loads of grooming and regular trimming as neither parent breed sheds. I would think if it has the best traits of both breeds it will be a good cross. But there are no guarantees.....even with Mini Schnauzers temperaments vary from laid back to hyperactive, and most of the Toy Poodles I have met have been little gits!
