an idea - for dogs in rescues at christmas

we have started to gather together a box of bits and pieces for the dogs at a local rescue centre to make christmas a bit better for them.

just wondered if others would like to join in and donate bits and pieces - if not to us to a rescue near them so that we can spread a bit of kindness and cheer to the doggies without families.

our bits are going to go to second chance in southampton as we have enjoyed to fun days there during the summer.

We have a sanctuary nearby, I would love to do something like that. I have to admit to not having got involved before, can you give me some ideas as to what bits and pieces should be included? Is it tins of food, doggie biscuits, toys etc?

This is roughly what I hope to put in mine.
A kids quilt for bedding (£7.99 in Lidl.)
Some kong toys.
Some rawhide chews.
Some dog food.

It might be an idea to ring the sanctuary to see what kinds of things they need beforehand?

i contacted where we going to take ours and they asked for leads, collars, treats, towels and blankets and anything else we thought was appropriate.

we have put an appeal on local freecycle site to see if we can get somethings that way

Our local Morrisons has a bin to put tins of food in for our local rescue. Every time we shop, we buy a tin of dog food and put it in on the way out.

we do it every yr for dogs trust, my little girl sponsors leo and she gets great pleasure in making some thing up for him as a pressie plus we buy treats etc but bigger packs so the others get some too.
she doesnt really know they go for them all but its worth it to see her glowing with the knowledge she has sent some thing for him at christmas.

i work at Manchester Dogs home for stray and lost dogs. we have two campaigns running over Christmas, one is foster a dog for Christmas, whereby people can take a dog from us and give it a home ofer the Xmas time, works very well, and the other is buy a dog a xmas dinner, whereby anyone can donate £1 to help with feeding the dogs over this time too both campaigns do really well and its a great help.
