Went to the Vets everything ok but then a phone call...

Hey guys,

We have a 7 week old male Yorkie Pom. We took out w plan with pets at home and vets 4 pets which covers his injections, working, Micro chip a few free health checks and 4 weeks health insurance.

We took him for his first health check today and was told everything was great with him and to come back next week for his injections and chip.
One hour later we get a phone call from the receptionist saying they forgot to inform us our puppy only has one small testical...and they need to add this onto his insurance paperwork.

Firstly we are worried if he will be ok and long term health effects of only one small testical, secondly why was we not informed in the consultation and skeptical if this is a way to bump up his insurance fee once the first minth free is over.

Any advice about a yorkie pop with only one small testical would be great.

After reading reviews of the insurance company (not the vets) they are shocking! Once the free month is over we wont be going with PET PLAN any advice which insurance company to go with?

Although it is always better to check that there are two testicles descended, it is not rare for such a young toy puppy to only have one present in the scrotum. There is still time for the other one to drop, though if it isn't there by five or six months, it is unlikely to appear at all.
As retained testicles can become cancerous, vets usually advise neutering, along with the removal of the retained one. As the risk has been noted, it is likely that the insurance policy will be endorsed to exclude cover for any treatment which could be related to this condition.

I think this is going to be a sensitive point with your insurance company as to whether this is a pre existing issue, I am guessing your breeder activated the 4 week insurance, but surely she/ he would have known if a testicle was retained, so the insurer may argue that the breeder took out the insurance on the pup under false pretences . As for the future, this as with any issue your pup will have in the future will be on his vet record, and as such will/ could effect any insurance you take out in the future..

As with the retained testicle it will need to be removed at some point in the future if it does not drop , but I doubt your insurance ( any ) will pay for it, in fact I don't think any insurance policies cover spay and neuter ever.

It's. Shame you did not buy out from. Reputable breeder who would have informed you about the pups testicle before you bought him.

Thanks for the replies,

The breeder did not take out the insurance, after settling him in at home we took him to the vets and we ourselves took out insurance 😊 The issue was only highlighted when he had his health check we took him for.

Hopefully it will sort it self out within 5 months or we shall take him to have it removed.

Again thank you
