Fur change in color & texture in different areas

Both of our Yorkies have developed patches of fur that have changed to a blackish/brown color. The skin looks healthy underneath and they act healthy. The vet has no clue. The fur has changed texture as well. We have not changed food or dog shampoo. Dogs are from different breeders, however they both are getting the spots at the same time. Any ideas or suggestions?

Is it around the area of the neck where the collar sits?

Duncan changed colour as he aged (not greying just darkened quite a bit) I was told it was normal for yorkies to do so.

Both Little One and Pereg changed colour as they grew older, from mostly black and tan to more tan with black, but both were/are mongrels [different backgrounds] and of no known origins. LO was long-ish silky coated and Pereg is velvety smooth coated although her very loose scruff has grown a bit harsher since she was a puppy.

You don't say how old they are.

My dog's a different shade of brown now she's adult than what she started off at. And all the variations weren't there in the beginning either. Like her darker tail and eyes and the goldy bits round top of legs.

Some info on Yorkie colouring here:

Seems to be a wealth of info out there on the web about Yorkies Changing Colour.

They are 1 1/2 and 3. The patches vary in size and location on their back. They were dark as pups, turned silver and are now going back to black/brown.

Marco is seven months now and his fur has changed from all black to black and shades of dark brown - he's having a hair cut this week so may find that we go back to black after that.
