Yep, off the North of Scotland.
Born Edinburgh in nineteen-canteen, parents from Orkney (via Aberdeen), used to live in Elgin (near Inverness). Educated (?) at an Edinburgh "public school" - which may be causing confusion - spent the rest of my life well North of the "Highland Line".

Nevertheless, most of my academic qualifications are in English, so I have bits of paper which prove that I know what "dinner" is!

Cheeky No this one has lasted since Laura was 18 months old - it was quite an expensive one at the time so it has been quite a good carpet and still hasn't worn out but its getting thinner now.

We call it dinner, the main meal that is, regardless of what time it is eaten. Generally it's about 5.30pm, but days like Christmas it's earlier, then we have tea later.

Agreed! Tea is the occasional afternoon cuppa when coffee doesn't seem appropriate.

Like now - my chance to assess the capabilities of the new kettle we had to buy last week!

And no - I won't be roasting beef in it.
