Ahem. Unless you live here and have applied for and are in receipt of [scratches head to get the translation] an allowance for "help in the home".

I was eventually granted 100% but when I re-applied [long story, not important] and was re-assessed, my allowance was increased to 150%.

You think I am gonna argue?!

I meant when people say they are giving 110%. or going to put 150% effort into something

Homophones are notoriously difficult to teach, I battle each and everyday trying to hammer them home to the children I teach.

My pet hates are:
been v being
practise v practice
proffesional or proffessional

I'm as guilty as the next person for allowing spelling errors to wind me up, but we must remember that for some people the English language is incredibly difficult to master.

None of us are infallable unfallable inffallible. . . . . . . . . Oh I give up!

'Of' in place of 'have' is the one thing I cannot forgive!

Argh well i'm sorry if I offend but I do try my best, you've made me paranoid now, but it does make me laugh on here when people get into arguments and they start slating (sp) each other's spelling and paragraphs, gotta laugh at that

Don't get me started!!!!
Capital letter in the Middle of a sentence......why?
The biggest bug bear for me is spelling & grammatical errors on websites - very unprofessional!
Not so bothered on forums and the like - people type quickly....

Of course my problem is that not many people here speak English, and as I am rather hard of hearing [and have to take out my hearing aid to use the telephone] I frequently mix up my words and language.

But as I still sometimes do some private tuition in spoken English for students studying for their matriculation, I have to be very careful to be grammatically correct. And as sometimes my students want me to look over their written homework, I have to make sure of spelling.

Only the English taught here is American English and the spelling is American English, and it drives me nuts!
