Bloodworms near Dog

My brother just bought a pack of live bloodworms and placed it in a shallow basin. It is 12 inches away from my dog's cage (Shih tzu). Is it safe or is there a negative effect to my dog's health?

I don't think they will do any harm but I would make sure that when the dog is out of it's cage that it doesn't eat any of the worms. Can the worms not be moved somewhere else, can you make sure the worms can't crawl out of the basin towards your dog cage.
