How can I console my girldog when she's in season?

Sorry, guys, I've always hated using the word 'bitch'!
My lovely sprollie is in season and seems to be in the second phase of it - swollen genital area, spotting, flagging etc., but she seems very upset alot of the time. I noticed this during her last season - she cries and cries and I try to distract her with toys, take her for long walks, cuddle her and give her treats, but she just seems so sad and whiney. Is this normal? Is she just dying to get a bit of action? She normally has a lovely temperament, if a little hyper, and I hate to see her so distressed. I do intend to get her spayed but meanwhile, is there anything I can do to comfort her? (Apart from the obvious, which isn't going to happen!)

Poor girl. The crying could be her wanting to get out for 'some action'.

Perhaps try distracting her with a bit of training/games etc.?

Hi Fee yes this is within the range of normal behaviour for a bitch in season.
I would try to occupy and distract her as the others suggest but otherwise ignore the behaviour as much as possible, I would not try to 'console', 'sympathise' or reward it with your attention (or you will encourage her to continue) and it should pass within a few days.

Thanks for your help, everyone - she's past the worst of it now.

Agree with all said above,

I wouldnt tend to console or sympathise with any of my bitches in season, I think it would just make them worse.

she should be fine soon.
