Alternatives to rawhide & bones

After our scare last week with the bone stuck in Tilly's throat, I've stopped giving bones & rawhidechews so am looking for an alternative which lasts longer than 10 seconds! any ideas?
She doesn't like nylabones, dentastix are rubbish! she does have stinky tripe sticks & carrots & kongs.
Are pigs ears quite safe or are they like rawhide?

We have bought Hamish an Ostrich Twister chew a couple of times, it's made from ostrich tendons and doesn't splinter, but they were £3 each so more of a occasional treat really. Lasted about the same time as rawhide. He seemed to like it

Here's a link to the one we got, don't know if you could get other brands or anything cheaper..

Yeah, they do sound a bit rank, but it never puts Hamish off

Ah... are they the ones sold over here as Bull's Pizzles? Bit more descriptive, methinks!

Probably so. I've seen various sites call them bully sticks, steer sticks, and bull pizzles. I think Bully Stick might be a brand name.

we use pizzle here too, Panda loves them and he cant chew off big pieces like they can with rawhide. Very safe chew that lasts ages, takes panda several days or even a week to get through a small piece

Much as the thought was a bit revolting for me (Veggie) , if they are good for the dogs and they are long lasting, I will try them. I am guessing they are really hard like raw hide? Also, FISH4DOGS treats at the bottom of the link are real cheap too Thanks for sharing xxxxx
