the Belgariad is one of my regular (about yearly) comfort re-reads... though it has to involve the mallorean, and both prequels

I am currently 25 books into a Discworld re-read (up to The Truth).

Have also just finished the first five books in Bernard Cornwell's founding of Britan series (Viking/dark ages historical novels).

I love David Eddings for comfort reading. It feels like forever since I have read it!
I really like the Redemption of Althalus as well. I was not so keen on the Dreamer ones, but the Belgariad and Mallorean were my intro to DE, and I was hooked from book 1!

I am not keen on the Elder Gods ones (i think that's the dreamer ones).

I like the Redemption of Althalus, particularly because of Emmy.

My intro was with The Elenium...(I had to wait to for the Tamuli to be published to so switched to the belgariad/mallorean before they came out) which I love, and again, they get read nearly each year...

The Slap is supposed to centre around a group of individuals who are all present at a barbecue when a child is smacked by someone who is not his parent. It is actually a look at current society(Australian) and how socila values have changed and are affected by class and generation. It is peppered throughout with very crude language and sex scenes which did not seem to add to the story.I gave up on the book as I thought the author was merely trying to shock and the storyline was not strong enough to make me want more.....

Thats right - the Elder gods, I have only read that one once! I did the Elenium and Tamuli - so the way the magic worked was a bit 'wrong'! !
