It makes you think...

after working at the kennels three days in a row now im beginning to see which dogs are better behaved than others, and it has certainly made me cross some off my wishlist.

some dogs that we have in are as good as gold, come when they are called, go into their kennel when you tell them, we even had a labrador who could understand commands in english and in chezch

but then you have the really naughty ones or just disobedient. i chased a springer about for 15 minutes today trying to get it into the kennel, while his kennel mate obediently went in and just sat there looking at me as if to say hurry up and close the door

it makes you wonder how much people train their dogs, and what standards they set at home for them. both the springers were from the same home, yet one was obedient and one really wasnt.

i never really thought about dogs and how they are trained, i just assumed they were all quite well behaved, because i assumed that owners did what i do with my dog and teaches them basic commands etc. naive of me i know but the thought had never really crossed my mind....

hi
i have also worked in kennels,
imo you cant relate how the dog reacts in kennels and to complete strangers to how well trained they are.
and youll probably find the ones that run you ragged are the cleverest of the lot

All but 2 of the springers I know (quite a few ) are great dogs to be around, ok they can be a bit busy but nothing really ott. My sister bought 2 springer pups (littermates) last year and they are a nightmare. I don't mean in being manic but they hate other dogs, don't like people except for their familly and are terrified of new places/things. I have no doubt that this is all my sisters fault. I was furious at the difference in them in just a few months. These are usually very social dogs but if they are not socialised as puppies then the end result can be heartbreaking. Whats the betting I end u with one or both within the year! I would love the challenge of turning them into well adjusted little dogs.

i know that you cant really judge them, because dogs do act differently in kennels, but i just assumed that they do as you ask lol i think its just because daphni is so laid back and will do what shes told by anyone, that all dogs would do the same.

i love all the dogs that ive come across. there is a nova scotia duck tolling retriever in at the minute, and yes he is gorgeous but oh my gosh he is loud!!! he barks at everything and its really high pitched too, always manages to get it right down your ear. ive loved meeting so many different breeds but it has crossed my mind how different people treat their dogs, and how they train them.

I agree! Monty is good as gold for me but as soon as someone else looks after him he pushes his luck! He ain't as daft as he looks!!
