I don't think Obama is the problem. I think originally he had some brilliant ideas and could have made a difference. The problem was cleaning up the mess of the last several administrations. Trying to solve the ills from the past fifteen or twenty years would have been impossible for anybody. We're still in Afghanistan, we still have weekly...daily...gun violence and health care for the poor amounts to a band aid for a heart attack. I really don't think one single president will be able to take it on. Well, I'm thinking if perhaps if we could bring FDR's ghost back.

A self-described democratic socialist and republican, Corbyn's key policies include renationalisation of public utilities and railways, combating corporate tax evasion and avoidance as an alternative to austerity, abolishing university tuition fees and restoring student grants, unilateral nuclear disarmament and cancellation of the Trident nuclear weapons system, and reversing cuts to the public sector and welfare. Corbyn's strong left-wing platform has been criticised by other members and senior figures in the Labour Party, including former leaders Neil Kinnock, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, as politically non-pragmatic and unelectable due to its radicalism. Corbyn has also faced scrutiny for his dealings with militant groups such as Hamas and Sinn Féin (when it was linked to the Provisional Irish Republican Army), as well as his alleged connection to groups promoting antisemitism.

Think that says it all about him and his views

Apart from being unethical, I'm not clear what the problem is ? Wouldn't that make his supporters happy?

Tumbleweed, he refused to condemn the IRA terrorists. Sickening.
Younger people probably don't know about the devastating IRA bombings on the mainland, or perhaps thinks it ancient history.

Lovemybull , Agree with what you said , Obama faced an impossible task . He has a good heart.

Love that - a "Guardian" comment, anything in that left wing rag should be looked at more than closely. My dear, late, father said of the Guardian that it's only sensible use was to cut it into 6ins squares and poke a hole in one corner.

Quite right. The press, both left and right wing, bend the truth to such an extent that it is often non-existent by the time it goes to press.

However, the way that the Labour Party has set up the voting system this time is wide open to abuse and it's not beyond the realm that this could happen - especially Tories voting for who they would like as Labour leader.

Dibby, that IS the problem. When the opposition has a say in who is voted leader, do you think they will be voting in the best interests of the party for which they are voting, or what is best for their own party?

Let's face it - the whole performance is an absolute shambles. Perhaps a bit of "back to the drawing board" is what is really needed here.

All true enough. I doubt our lives will really change regardless of who gets in.

Truth to tell I think we have "worried" this particular old bone long enough. Time to bury it! For whatever we do or say we will have little impact on the greater scheme of things.
It has for me been an interesting thread, with varied input and a good degree of passion.
I personally have learnt things, particularly about the US (thank you Myra) and found it very enjoyable. Perhaps it made a little change for others too - hopefully without causing too great a rise in blood pressures! lol !
Thank you all for your input - that's me finished with this one. Bye fer now.

Apologies Gordon. It was Dibbythedog who asked the reasons Obama was disliked. I mistakenly said it was you that asked. I have a feeling you really couldn't have given a flying fudge.
