Bitches first season

I am just looking for information as to when your bitch had her first season and what were the first most obvious sogns you noticed ?
I have read the Book of the Bitch and I am aware of the signs but just wondered what you personally noticed as the first signs and of her age of course ?

I probablely aint to mcuh help.

I can tell you that Luna was 1 year and 2 days old, when she had her first season.

I had been keeping an eye on her for months, didnt notice any change in behaviour or anything, just saw a blood stain on the pavement after her sitting there!

She bled for 19 days!

Sal was 8 months to the day almost and then has been (so far) every 5 months. Signs I noticed slight swelling at the back end about a month/3 weeks before she came into season. Oh and I notice too she "wee's" more often when she's due in season - but that could just be her of course.

Her two full litter sisters one came in season at 6 months and 9 months and a few days. So no uniformity there to go by sorry.

I must say though I use with Sal the guideline of the frequent wee's as the most telling sign in her case.

When my AB had her first season, her hormones shot through the roof, we had to keep a close eye on her, as she seemed to go through "moody spells" with our other dogs, not fighting of course just a little extra "bossy"

Frequent weeing, sometimes moody (PMT ) the obvious red discharge and sometimes very swollen

Or she could be one of the awkward ones, that has silent seasons, no colour, no swelling........just the obvious attraction from the boys!!

Hi Lel,
Jazz came in the first time at just over 8 months, the first couple of days she was not swelled much but she was dripping watery brown drips, then she swelled properly and was losing properly. She was quieter in hrself but otherwise no change in behaviour. (i think she leaves the PMT to me )

3 of my girls were in season at the same time a few months back, a few weeks before poor Paddy didn't stand a chance, they were like a bunch of nymphomaniacs!! As Kieran (8 year old son) kindly pointed out there were 4 of them having piggy backs
