steph i get them looks too when i tell them harley won,t hurt there dogs

harley gets on really well with my three bitches
but they do boss him around abit
he sleeps with amber every night

but it is a different story when we go walking
he sees another dog and all hell lets loose
he pulls me so hard and growls and foams at the mouth
the only way i can get him to stop is to make him sit and turn him away from the other dog
yet walk him in the filed off the lead and he is as happy as larry to play with other dogs

i,m not to sure if he is protecting me when other dogs are close

we tried training school, but he didn,t really get on there
and i didn,t like what they did to him

i,m am making progress with him better at home

i really hope you get sorted with murphy stephanie
and pleaseeeeeee post some more pics soon

I must admit - Jesse bosses Murphy a bit too but when they play fight he goes for Jesses legs and ears and it drives her bananas, its very funny to watch.

Murphy seems to be same as Harley, what is it with Rotties LOL, at least you can make Harley sit and look away from the other dogs, I can even get Murphy to do that, when he's on a lead he is sooooo focused on this other dog, what I do now is ask the other dogs owner is their dog is ok with other dogs and would they mind if I let Murphy closer to say hello to their dog, 8-10 times they are ok with it which is good cause once he's had a sniff and said hello he's quite happy to just carry on with the walk, it must be that hes protecting me, he gets quite growly/barky in the car if someone walks by (or cyclist which drives him mad) especially if they are wearing dark colours but funny enough he will rarely bark at a woman !!

What did they do to Harley at training school ??

I'm going to be contact Sarah Whitehead today, shes a very well known behaviourist (specialises in aggression) although I'm not convinced its aggression with Murphy, I think he's just very weary of people but we'll see what she has to a say.

I'll get some pics of the dogs over the weekend when were out on walks.

stephanie it has taken me ages to get to the stage where i make him turn away and sit
yes i think it is a protection thing too

when we went to training class harley had to be muzzled(fair enough,as he isn,t dog friendly)
but everytime he lunged at a dog they squirted him with water and he got really mad
the trainer said"i,m glad he has a muzzle on,cos i think he would bite me for doing that"
i want harley trained but am not gonna do that to him
i,d rather do it at home
and we seem to be getting somewhere with him

harley don,t really bother with cyclists but he hates people with hoods up
i have to make him understand they won,t hurt him
normally i can talk him round

i don,t think murphy is aggressive either stephanie
i think him and harley are very alike
and i,d trust harley with anyone

i hope this woman can help you with murphy
let me know how you get on please

and can,t wait for pics

I don't think I'd be too please either if someone kept squirting me with water thats why I'm an advocate of clicker training as it is all reward based which makes it positive training, I have my clicker book now but my daughter has poinched my clicker and put it in her toy box so I have to go rumaging to get it back and I'm gonna start clicker training with Murphy.

My main problem with Murphy is his fear of people, its funny if were out walking and hes off lead and we come accross other people, if there are other dogs about which is distracting Murphy he then lets other people pet him (he just doesn't realise as he is distracted by the dogs) but if it just people and he goes up for a sniff and they try to stroke him he backs off, I do wonder if Murphy was whacked in his previous home

Murphy took to chewing one of the chairs of my £2k dinning table last night and before I went to bed I had sprayed them with anti-chew He also chewed the arms on all of my wooden patio furniture and has starting on the wooden window box....the little sod but I love him loads

Stephanie, do people try to pat Murphy on his head?

Star hates strangers doing that to her. We have to ask them just to let her sniff their hands.

Yes they do, I suppose its the most natural place to pat a dog and I have too considered that maybe he doesn't like it, but then again i can send Murphy into a deep sleep by rubbing his face an his cheeks and ears, he obviously likes me

I will make a point of asking people to not try and stroke his head - thanks Carole

I have stopped and chatted with people when on a walk and initally Murphy seems ok but then he gives out a bark at them, it doesn't seem aggressive, its seems more like either a "I'm here too talk to me" bark or a "I'm just letting you know that I'm here and I'm protecting her' bark, these are the things that I am hoping that a behaviourist will be able to tell me what its all about.

:smt043 rotfpml at Harley with his head thru the wiring trying toplay with the chickens, how would a Rottie and Chickens play :smt017 :smt042

You must take a piccie of Harley bounding around and I'll take a picce of Murphy doing his Kangaroo impression

Murphy's a big chewer he goes through 2 of those big beef basted hide chews, the ones with the big knots on the end, he also likes to bury them in the garden, he permantly has mud on his nose LOL, Muprphy has also destroyed 2 dog beds since coming to us, now I wrap the dog duvets in a towel and this seems to stop him shredding the dog duvet/bed.

Another thing Murphy insists on doing is everytime I open one of the ground level kitchen cupboards Murphy has to get his head in there first, he literally buttslams me out of the way and when we bring the food shopping home, Murphy likes to stick his whole head in the carrier bag and has a good snort/sniff - he very quirky but so adorable
