Spark ~ Brilliant Amiable Boy – 4yo Fawn/White Greyhound

SPARK

Spark is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who is now looking for his retirement home. He is a gorgeous big fawn and white boy and is in good condition.

Spark has been well looked after and is a lovely amiable boy, though a bit camera shy! He really enjoys being in the company of people and loves lots of fuss and attention. He walks well on the lead, is clean in his kennel and has a nice relaxed temperament, making him a very good ‘first time’ greyhound for someone who has not owned greyhounds before.

Spark is just as good with the other greyhounds in our kennels, and never puts a foot wrong. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

Spark has spent all his life so far in kennels, so has not had a chance to experience a home environment. As such new owners will need to give him a bit of time at the start and allow him a settling-in period. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.

Like most greyhounds, Spark is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Spark is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Spark, please email me on email removed for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
