Very painful dew claw

We have a beautiful springer called Abbey.

Does anyone have advice for a dew claw
that splits and gets very sore on a regular
basis? It literally splits in two with the bottom
part 'coming away' from the claw itself.

Grateful & thanks

Abster!

poor girlie

imo you have two options... you can get protectors for them online,i used to have some fleecy waxed ones that velcro on...or have them removed, they are used in turning so she sounds like a normal zingy springer to me

If this is happening on a regular basis you dog may have one of the painful conditions which affect dewclaws and if you have not already done so I would get it checked by a vet.

thanks- didn't realise they are used in turning.
She is a very normal 'zingy' springer - but who
can't go out for a walk at present cos of being
in pain with claw. Will be at vets asap when
it reopens after Xmas!
