Dog glands may be swollen (update @post 19)

Yesterday I noticed Zeke's glands on his neck were really big. Embarrasingly enough, I'm not sure if they're always this size, I've never noticed them before...in 3 1/2 years! Which makes me think they are different/swollen.

He's a big chunky dog, with a massive neck and head (Akita) but they're about the size of golf balls, one maybe slightly bigger than the other?

He displayes hayfever type symptoms every summer, could it be linked to this?

He's fine in himself... hating the sun as ever but ok once he's cooled off.

Michael had swollen glads and was off colour but was otherwise okay for a few days last year, no vet just let him fight off the bug himself. Based on I don't go to docs if I have swollen glands so no vets lol

Sorry, I say vet. It could be lymphoma and the chance of that is enough for me to want to get it checked out.

Hi Lucie ,I would certainly get it checked out by a vet.

Although it may just be a sign of the body's defences working to fight off an infection, as Muttzrule says it can be something more serious.
If it is allergy related and Zeke has an allergy every summer I feel it would have happened before and think you would have noticed it.

I have had dogs with slightly swollen glands when they have had minor infections but some years ago one of our bitches developed large swollen glands and she was found to have lymphoma, sadly we lost her.

As Zeke is fit and well in every other way I don't think you need to worry but I would still have it checked just as a precaution.

*fingers crossed* I hope it's just his body fighting off the hayfever or other infection. Let us know what you find out!

Thank you hun, I'm so anxious already, he's my very special boy.

I have to say that he does have a lot of stomach upsets, allergies, the odd limp, a lot of trips to the vets but never anything serious! So I'm hoping it's just another little complaint, poor old lad.

I will feedback tomorrow xx
