Ash is not a bad thing!

In response to a recent post, I thought I would clarify something.

Ash is the measure of the total mineral content of a particular food. It refers to the inorganic portion of a measured sample after laboratory analysis.

Ash contains calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc and manganese and other minerals essential in the diet.

Therefore no Ash in your dog food = no minerals, not exactly healthy!

Thanks for clarifying that SB

I know which post you are referring to and I read your response to it with interest. I'm sure you've answered a question that quite a lot of people have wondered about

I had visions of people assuming that a little man with a shovel was adding the remains of coal fires and barbecues to bags; or the contents of ashtrays!

That is interesting, thank you for clarifying it. I was always of the assumption that ash couldn't be a good thing and as such assumed that less is better. You know what they say about assuming....

I still prefer my dog food without ash

Uh, you can meet these mineral requirements in any manner of food items. I for one don't fancy incinerating food just for ash he he.
