there are a couple of things it might be - you are best giving your vet a ring and ask them to confirm.

you've got me confused now..and having reread your original, am none the wiser.

Where did you see HPI written? If on the bag of dog food, what relevance do you think it will have to the blood test?
if you saw it written on the bag of Burns - give them a ring and ask, if you have seen it written in regard to a blood test (as I originally thought), ring your vet for an explanation as it could be one of several things.

Hiya, I hope this helps HPI usually just means History of Present Illness and the vet will have taken this and given some information with the blood sample.

HPI means Helicobacter Pylori to me.

It's a bacteria that thrives in the stomach. Causes indigestion and stomach ulcers.

My experience is in human medicine, but HPI could well be in vet medicine too.

Hi Nursey, slightly off track but just curious as a colitis sufferer myself. I think the poster is referring to blood test (although not too clear) so wouldn't a test for helicobacter pylori by by means of a stool sample?

Thanks.

Helicobacter Pylori can be detected in blood samples, in breath samples and in mucosal biopsies taken directly from the stomach lining.
