Sick dog, advice needed (lethargic, frequent vomiting)

Picked up young dog (12 months approx) from rescue centre (posted recently re Sasha/Sandy) on Saturday morning. She was very thin when we took her and she was sick in the car on the way home.

I thought it was due to the journey as I have had dogs before that have been car sick. However, she has not managed to keep anything down. Her first meal was the same dry food we currently feed Harry. This came up, as did James Wellbeloved which we tried later. Then puppy food and anything else we give her including fresh cooked meat.

She is very down and lathargic at the moment, but what is really worring me is the volume she is bringing up. She was sick this morning a couple of hours after breakfast, which was around 4oz of Wellbeloved. Later she had half a tin of puppy food. Each time she is sick the volume is around twice what she has eaten.

She has now thrown up 8 times in less than 48 hours.

I am really worried about her.

Should I call out the vet, wait untill tomorrow or give it a few days.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

My advice is the vet - asap - you may be able to hold out till tomorrow - not sure that I could. She musn't get dehydrated - it's very dangerous. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yes agree with Vicki , Vets asap..she is going to need a drip soon

Until you can get to a vet....
Do not let her drink large amounts of water , it will come back. Boil some water and add a tablespoon of honey to a pint of water and when cool offer a couple of tablespoon at a time. If it stays down do this every hour or so, if not just leave down a couple of tablespoons of fresh water replacing it frequently.

Her tummy now sounds well and truely upset don't give her any food for 24 hours then if the vet says ok give bland food/porridge and honey/white rice and white fish just a small amounts (couple of tablespoons at a time).

Thanks for the advice, a very speedy response.

Took your advice and spoke to the vet.

She gave the same advice as Minihaha - give her a few sips of water and se if she keeps that down. If she does then repeat every hour and take her in in the norning.

If the water also comes up then I need to get thevets out.

Will keep you posted, and once again thank you.

Been about half an hour now since giving her some water. All quiet, asleep under a blanket on couch.

I am glad the water stayed down..fingers crossed I would let her sleep as much as she can.
It is a good idea to make sure she is nice and warm, being poorly she will feel cold..tonight put a hot water bottle (not too hot) wrapped in a towel in her bed
