That was very interesting Jen.

That's the one thing that worries me is the mis-identification of breeds

there would be uproar if they did ban them !! they are one of the only breeds deemed suitable with children, what would they be saying if they banned them !!!

the pibull was ordered to be neutered to kill off the breed so they would have to do the same if thats what they decided

we all know it hasnt worked anyway
and yes the KC does make alot of money from registrations etc

What people need to realise is that dogs are like people, they all have a breaking point and where that point is depends more on upbringing than breed. It would also be interesting to know how many 'dog bites' were provoked. I remember reading about a dog being put down cos it bit a kid who had shoved a pencil down it's ear. Now I know what I would do if someone shoved a pencil down my ear-- and it wouldn't be pretty!

When a bite is provoked, very rarely does it get reported in the media.

I remember hearing about a Rott that bit a child, the headline in local paper was, " Rottweiler savages baby" , but a friend of a friend, who knew the family and dog in question, told me that the 4 year old boy had been left unattended with the dog, and he had been removing beads from a string/necklace/whatever and carefully shoving each bead up the dogs nostrils. Nothing in the newspaper article about that of course! Luckily the child wasn't hurt besides a bit of a scratch and the parents took responsibility and didn't have the dog euthanised.

Not a lot makes me more angry than people who are convinced that certain breeds are prone to 'attacking' people. I have to avoid my brothers' girlfriend like the plague, she thinks Bull and Mastiff breeds should be outlawed, along with some herders: Border Collies, GSDs, Dutch Shepherds. It wouldn't bother me if they were open to reason, but the ones I have been unfortunate enough to come into contact with (usually when they approach me to ask if my dogs have killed anyone yet!!) are so certain that they are right they are not willing to listen to facts that may contradict their beliefs :smt071 :smt075 :smt084 :smt091 :smt104
