Dogs Needing Homes in Cumbria

Animal Concern Cumbria - West Branch
Animal Concern Cumbria's aim is "to promote kindness and suppress cruelty to animals and to attend generally to the welfare of all animals in need of care and protection. They do not believe that any animal should be destroyed for want of a home"

There are 4 Branches:
West Cumbria, North Lakes & Solway, South Lakes and Millom
If you would like further information regarding any of these dogs, please contact Linda Lockney directly TEL: 01900 61669

West Cumbrian Branch also have lots of other small animals currently looking for new homes, for further information please contact Linda directly.

All applicants must be aged 18+ and be availabe for an interview with Linda in Workington, Cumbria. We do not collect or deliver dogs and you may be asked for references/have your home checked for suitability. Please be aware that this is carried out for your benefit as well as the animals to be sure the 'right' animal is matched for you.

Animal Concern Cumbria - West Branch suggest a donation upon adoption to help us to continue care, feed and vet treat all animals in our care. Our charity is self funding.

This thread is updated frequently, please check the last page for an up to date listing of dogs available for re-homing.

Sasha

She is quite small in size (about the size of a Border collie bitch). She has to wear a muzzle due to her obsession for eating stones and has had an operation to remove them from her stomach in the past. Sasha would make a perfect family companion and really deserves a very good home. She has been in kennels for such a long time as she tends to hide when visitors come. Sasha has been spayed. If you think you are eligable to provide a home for Sasha, please call Linda for an interview.

Fizz

She is 3 years old and has special dietry needs due to a life long medical condition which is treated through a strict diet regime of chicken and rice twice a day. Fizz has been spayed

01900 61669

Dizzy

He is 4 years old and is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross. Dizzy is partially blind in one eye and completely blind in the other, even though he had an operation to both eyes late last year to remove cateracts.
Dizzy is a very loving dog who loves to play with water and he loves the seaside with sandy beaches. Dizzy needs a stable home where furniture would never be changed around, a secure garden/exercise area and a regular routine. Dizzy loves everyone he meets and quickly wins their hearts. He is truely a really special little boy, whose only fault in life was being born partially sighted.

Ricky

He is a 6 and half year old Rottweiler cross. He has a lovely friendly temperament and is ok with older children. Ricky is a playful lad who is on the small side for a Rottweiler, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in personality as he is a cuddle monster. His favourite toy is a squeeky boot and he loves to eat anything that we give him.

Sonny

Sonny is a border collie cross who has a very friendly and lively temperament. He is approximatley 12 months old. He is ok with older children, but isn't suitable for the younger child as he still needs basic training which we are currently working on.

We also have a mature lady called Betsy who isn't quite ready for rehoming at present as she had to have a minor operation to her ear. Betsy is 7 years old, and looks like a Ridgeback Cross. She is ok with children, other dogs and is very obedient. She would make the perfect companion in any home :smt049

For information, please Tel: 01900 61669 Linda

Angel, 2 year old White German Shepherd. Like her name she is an angel. Very well trained and is excellent with older children. Angel was another poundie who was rescued and transported up to us in workington, where she will be safe for the rest of her life. If you think you can offer Angel the perfect and loving home that she deserves, phone Linda

Betsy

Betsy is a gorgeous lady who is what would be considered to be middle aged. She is just 7 years old and has a very loving and affectionate temperament. She loves to play, but is also very placid and will happily curl up near you and go to sleep. Just two weeks ago, she was due to be put to sleep by a pound down south, when several volunteers clubbed together to get this lovely lady into safety. I met with one of the transporters at Penrith and I was due to transport Betsy straight to our kennels and introduce her to her new friends. Unfortunately, Betsy had a huge heamotoma (excuse poor spelling) in her ear which needed immediate verterinary treatment and so she had her operation that afternoon.
The following morning, I collected her from the vets and she was such a placid little lady who had a smile for everyone she met. She had the all clear to be introduced to the kennels and so we took her there.
Betsy settled herself into the kennel in no time at all, making sure that the other dogs knew she was the boss, but without any aggression. She is the oldest after all!
10 days later, her drain has been removed, the vet has given her a clear bill of health and so she is now ready to be rehomed. (If only I had room myself, she would be coming straight home with me).

Besty would make an ideal companion in any home. She is ok with other dogs, she doesn't jump up and is obedient. She is ok on and off lead. She is a large dog and is approximately 40-43kg.

Betsy has been microchipped and after further inverstigation, by the pound, the dog warden and our own vets, We all drew a dead end. (much to our dismay As she has been very well cared for in the past, I personally searched through all the lost dog websites to no avail!) Her microchip details will need to be changed once she has been adopted.

if you think you are the right family for Betsy and would like to make an appointment for an interview in Workington, West Cumbria, please telephone: Linda 01900 61669

New Arrival - Bailey

He is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross who is just 10 months old. After an initial assessment, he would not be suitable in a home where left for quite a while since he is destructive. He needs a home which will continue with his training.
