How do you stop a dog weeing when they are excited?

Not mine....but my friends ESS.
He actually lives in a kennel so is not really housetrained.....but he is soo hyper that even if you sroke his belly, talk to him or just pick toy up he will wee himself. Makes visiting people difficult. Apart from keeping him calm or wearing him out first and making sure he has been toilet first i am not sure what to suggest...so advice please ? Thanks xx

Lol yeh i dont really agree with him living in a kennel either but its not up to me.
Its not when he goes in a house tho he will do it anywhere...in his kennel, in the street if someone gives him any attention.
I am guessing this is why he does it?? Is it usually dogs that are lacking human attention, left alone for long periods that tend to do this?

Sounds like someone may have got cross with him for doing it at some time maybe as well?

That'll make it loads worse. Shame it is kennelled on its own.

Yes he is on his own a fair bit of the day. He is well cared for, she walks him before and after work and does basic training with him...but he is obviously a bit lonely.

On the theory side of things (cos she wont ever change) but if she did spend more time with him, keep him in the house and housetrain him...is it easily cured or does it turn into a habit thats hard to break?? Cos i see it as a bit of a vicious circle!! He wants attention but when he gets it he wees!! Would it be best to not give him too much attention but just kinda have him around people more??

How old is he?

my brothers springer peed with excitement until he was well into adulthood and he lived in a house and met lots of people. He did calm down eventually though and doesn't pee on your feet anymore thank goodness.

He is submitting to everyone as he greets them,it isn't a housetraining issue. Answer is to not make a big thing of greeting and do it outside. They do grow out of it eventually but it'll take ages in the situation he is in as it is so important to the poor chap to have company.

He isn't getting enough company.

Poor little chap, I would say he is getting over excited with the attention and can't control himself and there is a degree of submissive urination
Maybe not enough human contact/ mental stimulation/socialisation.
The only way really is to boost his self confidence when at all possible by praising him in a bright voice when he does something right.

If he starts to pee when you talk to him/pick up a toy/stroke him , stop instantly /turn away/ignore him, no word no eye contact , do not reward the unwanted behaviour. Then return to him and continue praising in a bright voice if he isn't peeing, ignoring him if he is so that he learns not peeing brings attention.
It may take a long time and a lot of patience...
