Duke (Collie X)

Duke is a sweet, vulnerable little 13 year old Collie Cross who came into Oldies Club care due to his family’s unfortunate change of circumstances. This change has meant that, for the last few months, they have not be able to give Duke the care he needs and had to make the selfless decision to rehome him. Duke is in an Oldies Club foster home near Belper in Derbyshire.

Duke was bewildered and terrified to find himself in unfamiliar surroundings with people he doesn’t know. He is gradually settling, but it is obvious that he is still wondering what has happened to him and is feeling very anxious. For this reason, we are hoping that Duke will find a new home quickly, before he becomes too attached to his foster family, to spare him the trauma of another tough separation.

Duke is a lively 13 year old. He has been enjoying long walks and playing ball with the other dogs in his foster home. Duke loves to be out in the garden and asks to go out quite often for a wander around. In warmer weather he will probably enjoy lying out in the sunshine or helping with the gardening.

Duke is an adorable, gentle little dog who has the sweetest temperament. He just wants to be your best friend. His ideal home would be with someone around a lot of the time who understands that he is a sensitive boy who feels insecure and will need to be allowed plenty of time to settle into his new life. Duke can be left for a couple of hours but he does get anxious. Of course, this might improve once he is fully settled in his new home.

Duke gets on well with dogs and he is used to cats and children, but he is at the age where he doesn’t want to be pulled around or bounced on by exuberant youngsters. He is well-behaved and knows his basic commands. And, despite being traumatised, since arriving in his foster home he has settled well at night. On the first night, his foster mum simply pointed to the dog bed he was to sleep on and he got on it and didn’t stir until morning, bless him!

He is quite good on the lead - he just pulls a little at first. He hasn’t been let off lead by his foster family yet, but he seems as though he will stay close by and come back when called.

Duke arrived with an ear infection and a long-standing skin condition caused by an allergic reaction. He has been prescribed a short course of antibiotics and medicated baths. His skin should settle down soon but his new owner will need to look out for any recurrence of this in the future, and will also need to keep his ears clean but this is easy as Duke is so good. The vet said that other than this, Duke seems to be a healthy boy. He is neutered, flea and worm treated, and he will be vaccinated shortly.

Can you offer this traumatised little boy the love, dedication and patient care that he so desperately needs?

If you are interested in giving Duke a loving new home please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Duke can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet him.
