Battersea Dogs Home figures.

these are intake figures for 2006.

the most regular breeds are listed as follows.

Border Collie 265(purebred) - 221(crosses)
German Shepherd 509/172
Greyhound 128/0
Jack Russell Terrier 526/336
Retriever (Labrador) 285/168
Rottweiler 299/88
Staffordshire Bull Terrier 1389/625
Yorkshire Terrier 148/43

Totals 4926/3388

No surprises there - fits in with the trend nationally for last few years,

Staffies/X's practically nearly equal all the rest put together.

And JRT's and GSD's have been espesh high too, and the rest are about the same as well.

Wow - that is a huge number of dogs. I don't think I'd ever appreciated just how many are taken in in one year.

I'm surprised that spaniels aren't on the list as it seems like quite a few appear in rescue .

Wonder what the figures are for Wood Green etc., if you put them all together must be frightening figures.

What I found surprising is both Battersea and the Mayhew's figures show, so far this year the calls they're recieved about unwanted dogs were 2/3rds pedigrees, 1/3rd cross breeds

Pedigrees are now the problem, not mongrels
