How are your babies getting on Scarter? Is the little one settling into a routine?

I think we're finally getting there!!

They play together wonderfully in the garden. They love playing indoors too, but it gets too vocal and rough so we limit that. And of course, left to their own devices the play fighting will continue all day long. Biggles doesn't realise that he needs sleep, and I don't think Beanie want's the responsibility of keeping her little brother in check 24/7!

We now have a large fabric crate that we use as a portable playpen for Biggles. When we're downstairs it's located in the kitchen/diner against the glass doors through to the hall so he can see the whole of the downstairs floor. When upstairs it goes on the upstairs landing against the baby gate to our office. He can see all of us and we've managed to train Beanie that the play pen is out of bounds for her so she leaves him in peace when he's in there. He's 100% fine with this as it's always full of nice things that he's not allowed to play with elsewhere. He knows what Beanie is up to so there's no anxiety or upset over that. That's calmed things down to the extent that he'll happily play in a room on his own.

Of course, they do get long play sessions together in the garden and short play sessions indoors. And lots of one-to-one play time when one of them is out for a walk or some other activity. But they also get plenty of time to just enjoy playing alone or sleeping...whatever they want.

In short, we're solved the problem by letting them be in sight of each other all of the time if they want, but limiting the amount of interaction. They are both very happy with this, and quite ofen when we're downstairs with Biggles Beanie will choose to go upstairs and sleep on our bed (which she always did before we got Biggles). Biggles will also choose to go and play in the garden on his own. So we've got the result we wanted in a round about way. They went nuts when we tried to physically separate them, but now we let them be together as much as they want but encourage them to choose to be separate and it's working just fine.

Good for you, it sounds like you've got it sorted. BTW, I love Biggles' eyeliner!
