I've voted yes but they were easily addressed. Flynn hasnt any serious issues but he does have 2 problems which cause me grief. The first is his noisy nature. That was evident at 6 weeks old so nothing to do with me initially but I dont think i've dealt with the problem correctly and only reinforced his behaviour.
The second issue is his reactivity to dogs, mainly males and mainly dogs of a similar or larger size. I believe this stemmed from having him neutered under a year. Other dogs find him attractive, pester him sexually and I think this has evolved into Flynn just warning dogs off before they get near him.

I voted Yes..

I got Kestral from a lovely breeder with great dogs (healthy and sound in temperament).
I did lots of reading on the breed and also on dog training and socialisation. (Although there is a recent addition of some info saying some are nervous in temperament).

Despite doing everything I could (within reason) she is an extremely nervous dog:
She cannot relax in the house, barking ang growling at the slightest sounds. Also at objects that look strange. If there is no background noise on she will often go in to a panic...
She is petrified of traffic and busy places.
She is fear aggressive towards people.

Clearly if I went back in time I would do some things differently
- get her at 8 weeks rather than 12.
- make sure the breeder has done lots of socialisation with the puppies
- socialised her 100 times more than I did. I thought what I did was loads, but clearly not!

Even with all of that I think she just has a shy, suspicious nature and anything out of the ordinary would always have made her panic - overall I think although I could have done better, I dont think she would ever have been perfect in temperament.

Basset the bernese (parents dog) on the other hand, barely left the house during the 1st year of his life due to illness and living in rural France and had barely any training. He has turned out to be the perfect dog!

(I have posted this in both threads but mods feel free to remove one..)

Yes - health wise. Epilepsy, Cruciate op (steel plate in knee) and now cancer.

Temperament wise he's lovely.

He is a 'new' breed and from a litter of in bred pups.

Ooh I forgot an issue - or something some would find an issue but it's not really a problem.

Louie has this thing about mopeds and bicycles. They're fine when we're walking/sat. But if they pull up behind us or at the side of us when we're in the car Louie barks at them.. He's not possessive over the car, it's just these two things near it cause him to bark..

Out of 6 pups over the years, only ONE caused me big problems with dog aggression. I tried my utmost to cure it, but she just hated all other dogs. When I introduced our next puppy into our home, she wouldn't have anything to do with her, wouldn't let her sleep in the same bed even though the puppy cried to be in bed with her always sat miles away from it, and refused to have anything to do with it. Things only changed after a couple of months when she tolerated a bit of play but nothing much more, she was a loner, she just didn't like the company of other dogs. She also had some serious skin problems over the years.

The previous bitch to the one I have now, also from a puppy, had serious intestinal problems resulting in EPI and was a very well bred dog, my most expensive ever purchase, but of course, that doesn't always follow that they're going to be perfect healthwise.

My latest puppy was THE best in every way, training was a doddle (but only when she actually got old enough to realise what I wanted from her), full of fun and eager to please, sooooo obedient it's untrue, and a bond that I've never experienced ever before with any of my dogs. She doesn't even do the "bitchy" stuff, she's just an ultra friendly bundle of sheer fun and laughs. Her only downsides are that she's rather demanding for my attention, and doesn't have cast iron guts, but it's easy enough to deal with both of those problems.

It's my rescue who's had more health problems than any dog I've bought from a puppy.

One thing I will add is, out of all the gsd's that I've had, they've all gone well into their teens with NO hip/leg problems, ranging from 14 to 16 years, the youngest dying of cancer at 11 1/2, but again, no hip problems. All still able to get out and about right up to the end, whether that's just down to luck, or maybe the way I do things with them from the start I don't know, but I'm very grateful!
