Showing A "Defective" Dog?

Title sounds awful and I certainly don't think Isla's "defective" (I think she's perfect! ), but I'm sure you all know what I mean!

So, should I still show Isla even though she's been diagnosed with cataracts? I initially thought I'd stop all showing with her, but a couple of friends have said they think I'm mad. They said as long as her eyesight is ok and she isn't going to be bred from (which she isn't) then I should continue to treat it as my hobby.

Opinions?

I dont see why you should give it up, if you and Isla both enjoy it, I would keep going x

No, she's just been diagnosed this week during her yearly eye test. No real way of knowing if her eyesight will be affected, but it's looking hopeful it may not......

Why does she have a yearly eye test? Is it for showing or is it a ESS thing?

If you both enjoy it then I think ypu should keep showing, it is your hobby and as you say her eyesight may not be affected. Go for it and enjoy....

ESS should be eye tested yearly for MRD, CPRA and GPRA if they are going to be bred from (along with other health tests). I was due to breed from Isla this Spring so had her eyes tested when they were due in March, she passed all with flying colours but was found to have cataracts.

Would it count against her? If not and you both enjoy it, do it.

Hi Rips, go for it if you both enjoy it and not any detriment to her - why not? BTW good on you for having the all important yearly eye tests I wish others would be so responsible. XX
