I wonder if anyone can help me!
I've never had a bitch before, so this is all confusing!
I've read quite a few things, but still not sure about a bitches heat.

Ok, Teagan started bleeding on Tuesday 26th October.(pro-oestrus?)
I noticed there was no blood in the discharge on 9th November.(oestrus?)
It's now a week later(16th November), and i'm just confused about what part of her oeastrus cycle she's in! I haven't seen any discharge, and her vulva seems to have returned to normal size. (Met oestrus?) If a dog mated her, would she get pregnant at this stage? (I'm not planning on her getting pregnant btw! Just wondering!)

Unfortunately no two bitches have the same sort of season nor does an individual always have the same sort of season. IMO it is best to allow a full 28 days from the first sign of the season, but before that try giving her a good wash and taking her out on the lead, the first few dogs you meet will let you know if she is finished or not.

You have given the textbook example of a typical season and I would think your bitch has finished but I have known of mating and good litters from a bitch in the 4th week of their season, so care is needed. Most bitches will stand somewhere between 11 and 21 days but most breeders would give a good deal to know when ovulation would occur in any particular bitch That would save any number of fruitless journeys.

Can I just ask- in a first heat is the blood loss in a dischargey form at first?

My bitches always start with a clearish discharge before there is blood.

I just noticed a spot of blood on the pavement the first time..... AND on her first season she didnt start swelling untill after she had started bleeding!

This time she swelled a bit before bleeding....

But Hevvur I would say count 28 days and dont let any male dog near her those days... That's what I'm gonna do with Luna....

My girls usually swell a tiny bit a couple of days before any discharge, then bleed, then the bleeding stops and they swell quite big (normally the mating time)

candy and daisy both stop eating for a day or two before , then they swell a lot n get v ratty!!but the give away is all the humping and the blood of course"!lol

I didn't notice any discharge, I just noticed blood in her urine when we were on a walk.
Then she started swelling.
The discharge came after the blood, then the swelling went down.

She's also been off her food, still is a bit, but getting her appetite back!
