Viva Las Vegas.....

We had some long standing friends around this evening, they called in unexpectedly, and I was sat here in OH dressing gown, wet hair having just got out of the shower ( can you picture the elegance ) I have to admit at first I thought "blast" and a few other things! but it was lovely to see them.
The chat quickly got onto holidays, a common denominator. Well, what started out as them popping in for a cuppa turned into an expensive evening. We have booked to go to Las Vegas in May/June, managed to get flights and accomodation on line at a very reasonable rate. Have any of you been ? Have you any suggestions, or tips on what to do and what not to do. I have looked a a web site this evening and I could cram so much in but need to be realistic. My friend said Celine Dion is at Ceasars Palace and would like to see her, so that's a starter. Would be grateful for your posts. x

Not the best person to ask, I would only tell you all the things not to do, after all we are only young once and I say go for it and have a ball of a time

Oh, I envy you. I was supposed to be going on hols to LV this year, but spent the money on buying my company car, so I can't really recommend anything in particular. While you're there, put a dollar in a slot machine for me eh? Have a great time.

I went to Las Vegas a few years ago - when they were building the pyramid shaped hotel. I was only there for a few days, but you've got to have a go at the slot machines. I won about £180 on one and took the money .... you just got to set a limit and walk away when you you are winning.

Anyway, what to see and do ? I guess it depends what you like doing.

The nearby attractions of Death Valley, Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam are worth visiting once you get bored of the bright lights, casinos and shopping. I flew over the Grand Canyon in a small single-engine plane. It is an awesome sight, but beware of the turbulance!!

You can watch the fountains at the Bellagio, the 'volcano' at the Mirage, ride a gondola at the the Venetian, go up to the top of the Stratosphere Tower.

The Stratosphere Tower has excellent views over Las Vegas - best go half an hour before sunset, you can see LV in daylight, at sunset and watch as the lights come on. Also here, thrill seekers can enjoy excitement over 100 stories above the ground on the Big Shot, X Scream and Insanity thrill rides.

Other stuff at the Mirage: http://www.mirage.com/attractions/

Celine Dion is at Caesar's Palace

... and you'll find no shortage of stretch limos and Elvis' all around.
