2nd Update on Cassie - not good

Hi everyone, my heart is breaking, I've just spoken to my vet. The biopsy came back sort of inconclusive, so he read it to me and then explained it. There is inflammation there but they can't be sure it's purely cystistic, which means it's probably cancerous. He has booked me in for Friday morning 9 am. to see the soft tissue specialist who will explain all the pro's and cons to me about operating, BUT, he was trying to tell me in a round a bout way, that he thinks it best if we put her to sleep. When they remove these cyst type tumours they usually grow straight back again, and being that she's an old dog, the time might be to say enough is enough. Oh my God, how can I face taking her on my own on Friday morning, knowing that I might just be saying goodbye to my dear old friend. I'm in shreds now, but I know I have to do it. I can't think positive anymore since I've spoken to the vet, even though when I saw him with her Friday he insisted it was nothing sinister didn't he?!!! I will think positive up until I have a chat with this tissue man, but quite honestly, I think I would rather let her go peacefully, than put her through any more torment. Then again, would I ever forgive myself always thinking what might have happened should I have given her the chance? I had a 13 year old operated on once who one vet wanted to pts there and then, but I sought a 2nd opinion, and she lived a further 3 years. Oh I really don't know what's the right thing to do about this. Thanks forf listening, this has got to be the worst time of my life.

I did ask him if they could drain it, but he said he tried that on Friday and couldn't get much of anything out, so there wouldn't be any point. I would rather she dies peacefully in my arms staring up at me than under the knife quite honestly. If I can, I will post up about what happens, but if you don't hear from me you know why, I can't see through my tears even now to type this properly. Poor little girl, she's been through so much in her life, at least she's been spoiled rotten with me though.

Oh Helena, I'm so, so sorry to hear this dreadful news.

If the worse comes to the worse do you have to make the decision on Friday? If she is suffering I can totally understand but, if she isn't, would they be able to make her comfortable so that you can both enjoy a while longer?

I know that whatever happens you will do the best for Cassie, even though it will break your heart, and my thoughts are with you.

Please give her as many hugs from me as you can manage to fit in, between those from you and all her other Dogsey fans.

Big hugs for you too. xxxxx

Thanks for making me feel a bit better, and yes, I will do right by her no question. I said before, I will do what my vet thinks is the best and he has really just said it I'm afraid. Thanks for helping me get through this.xxx
