I would suggest waiting till your dog is 2.... but having said that my second dog was got when my own dog was younger.

Now that she's over three and my (now third since my second one died young) other dog is about one and a half I have foster dogs coming and going from our home. They both adjust well and get on great with (touch wood) all dogs that have come and gone from here.

Other factors to consider are double the kennel and insurance fees as well as vets bills if both become ill, or simple vaccinations, worming etc.

Personally I'd choose a rescue dog everytime.... there is the possiblity of getting pups from a rescue as well. Let your local one know that you are interested if this is how you choose to go. For an older rescue you should be given the oppertunity to go walking with your own and the rescue dog with handler to see how they get along before making your final choice.

Good luck!

i personally would wait until she is older, trained and well passed that teenage stage before getting another!

i would also go for a rescue dog as well, their is so many needing homes

i have been thinking baout getting another one as well, a rescue GSD.

At four and a half I'd probably wait till she's older. In the mean time focus on her training and socialisation with a view to eventually bringing another dog into your home.

Hi Ruth I would defiantly wait until your puppy is 18/24 months before you get another dog. This will give you chance to trainer her fully and to have her bond with you rather than another dog.

i think you have made the right decision youve not had the full front from your puppy yet. like everyone suggests, wait til that silly delinquent age has passed at 18 months, then you may even decide that this breed is too much for you and want something a little more "laid back"
