A dog's life? or a child's life?

Seven-year-old girl bitten so badly an artery in her arm was punctured
An RSPCA rescue dog that punctured a main artery in a little girl's arm will not be destroyed, say police.

The seven-year-old, who lives in Stony Stratford, is this week recovering from seven hours of specialist surgery at Stoke Mandeville hospital.

Meanwhile white German Shepherd Zeus is still at home with his owner John Everard.

He adopted the dog from an RSPCA rescue home just two days before the attack, which happened while the girl was riding her bicycle along the pavement with her mother.

I`m a bit flummoxed by your thread title since neither the child not the dog have died (thankfully). Let`s hope the girl recovers well and the man manages to retrain the dog.

I just clicked on the link and that's the title of the article.

Hopefully the little girl will be OK and the dog non the worse for the experience.

My boys lunge at bikes and luckily we've always been on a wide enough path that we can get them out of the way, but it does worry me that they might bite if they got close enough

It seems like a tragic accident and nothing more, the dog snapped at the bike and caught the girl in the wrong place. I hope the little girl is ok but i dont think the dog should have to die for it. It doesnt seem like he was attacking her or is a threat he just needs so work with bikes.

I assume it's copied from the article?
Nice to see it judged on the circumstances rather than automatically putting the dog down. It's very tragic but dogs can bite for other reasons than aggression and it sounds more like a horrible accident - I've been bitten to the point of bruises by my previous GSD, not out of aggression but genuine accidents (she wasn't the smartest of GSDs and a bit highly strung - she'd bite at things like her lead when stressed and occasionally caught my hand/leg) and I'd hate to think of my dog being PTS from an accidental bite.

I think people forget that dogs are living things and can some times react unexpectadly(sp?) they are not robots nor are they nasty for doing so.

It seems like the guy may have been trying to get out the way and anyway bikes have not business being on footpaths. This is a pet hate of mine a pavement is for walking!

I agree with people on bikes should not be on pavements but i have no problem with young children being on a bike on the pavement.

thanks
It is difficult when kids zoom past on bikes. If they go round slowly it`s not a problem with my lot, but when they fly past we`ve had some narrow shaves.
One girl rode straight into the back of Daisy once. The idiot mother (also on a bike, on the pavement) behind her got a few choice words from me.

I've had a few incidents with people on bikes on the pavement, one knocked my little boy off his scooter, the mother (who was also on a bike) proceeded to tell me my son should have been looking where he was going ! i promptly answered that they shouldn't be on the pavement anyway, she then lifted up her top and showed me her pregnant belly, to which i replied if she was that concerned then don't ride the bike at all, stupid woman.

When i said no problem with young children on bikes i meant very little ones.
