Weeing on greeting

Tilly the westie is now nine months old and is now wonderfully clean around the house. Just one thing though, when you come home she always gives you a lovely welcome but can't stop weeing in excitement. She does this when out walking when a friendly face comes to stroke her.
We can't understand this as she will 'hold on' all night long until let out in the morning when she will then wee for England!
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Robin

Hi there,
It's excitement weeing? That's pretty normal for most pups (and some adult dogs). It's an easy fix though, when you see someone while on your walks or out and about, tell that person not to pay attention to your darling westie until she's calm, then reward the calm by way of a greeting. Your pup will learn that being excited doesn't get her anything, but calmness get a pat on the head and a wee treat =)

They grow out of it, some sooner than others. We had a bitch who up until she was 2 always did a wee when she saw my brother & somehow quite often wet his shoes!!

We told him he must be a very exciting person to cause sich a reaction

We had a springer who grew out of it by about the age of 2 too, but she always did it when she seen my grampa, right up until she was an old lady- she just loved him to bits.

My Kito is a 5 month Mal who is also prone to a wee pee when meeting people, some more than others... hopefully something he'll grow out of..

The key to it all is toning down your greetings. If you're excited, she'll get more and more excited and the peeing happens during that excitement. Come in, wait for her to calm down completely and then greet her calmly. They usually do grow out of it, but in the mean time you can often manage it by remaining calm when she usually would get excited.
