Max has a lump (updated 14/1 - post 7)

Max has a little lump next to one of his nipples

It's about 5mm across, slightly raised and red (although not sore looking, just redder than his skin)

He hasn't noticed it (i.e. licked it or anything) and I can stroke him, touch it, press it etc and he doesn't even notice.

I thought it might be a bite of some kind, but it's not really the season for them. I noticed it last weekend, but thought I would give it a few days to see if it went down (but it hasn't changed)

He has no more of them and seems fine in himself...

Going to the vets Friday afternoon to get it checked out

Took Max to the vets on Friday night to get his lump looked at.

The vet didn't like the look of it, so he is booked in to have it removed on Friday of next week.

She said it could be one of 2 things.

A histiocytoma - a red raised lump, common in puppies, but benign

Or a tumour, also a red raised lump, common in Boxers, possibly malignant.

The problem is, they both look the same, so without removing it, she can't tell.

He is booked in for removal on Friday. The vet says they will take a large section out round it, so that if it is malignant, they should hopefully get it all.

I'm a bit upset TBH, as he is my little baby (all 26kg of him) and I don't want anything to happen to him.

Will keep this thread updated after his op.

Fingers crossed its nothing serious but with Max being a boxer any suspicious lumps are best removed if the vet is unsure about them.

been there so many times........hes a boxer and its part and parcel of the breed.
its not nice but its better off just in case it is nasty.
the benin tumors still grow and can bleed if caught so its better removing them when they are small.
you know max he'll take in his his stride and bounce back boxer style.
ben my old lad had about 15 taken off over his 11 yrs and only 1 was cancerous but they remove a section around them to ensure they get it all.
fingers crossed nothing will happen to him try not to worry.
